This project at Phoenix Academy in Huntersville, North Carolina involved the construction of a fully ADA-accessible playground featuring poured-in-place (PIP) rubber surfacing, artificial turf, and shaded play structures. Designed for durability, safety, and inclusivity, this playground supports students of all abilities while meeting the demands of a high-use school environment.
Our team began by grading the entire playground area flat, creating a stable and properly drained base to support long-term performance of both equipment and surfacing. We then installed two commercial playground units, each paired with integrated shade structures to provide critical sun protection and improve comfort throughout the school year.
Several freestanding play components were installed to add variety and encourage imaginative, social, and independent play. Once the equipment was set, we brought in engineered playground gravel and installed concrete edging, establishing clean boundaries and proper containment for the surfacing systems.
The project was completed with a combination of ADA-compliant poured-in-place (PIP) rubber surfacing and artificial turf, creating smooth, continuous pathways and impact-attenuating fall zones. This surfacing solution meets accessibility requirements while offering excellent durability, drainage, and low maintenance—making it ideal for schools and educational facilities across North Carolina.
